The first volume of Salty magazine is flipping the script on how local print is used to describe what’s happening in Ogden. In fact, it’s not just the compelling content inside the magazine that’s new, it’s the way it’s presented to the community, bridging a generational divide of what makes Ogden exciting and unique. Writers and photographers present Ogden through a different lens where art meets adventure. Instead of simply sharing the best trails in the area, one contributor highlights our terrain through active, artistic shots and prose describing a day of riding through a love letter to the trail. Salty magazine found an Ogden many of us never even knew existed until contributors like those from Salty showed us.
Writer Mekenna Malan’s story of Ogden’s tattoo history and culture, made more vivid with photography by Cam McLeod, discusses where this craft has been and where it’s going. Inside Salty you can find Ogden’s poet laureate, Angelika Brewer, describing the deeper meaning behind the demolition derby, a beloved annual tradition in Weber County. Catch a behind-the-scenes shopping trip with local band Cop Kid, building a wider audience after their collaboration with Kaskade and opening for Noah Cyrus. Where do they see the Ogden music scene is headed? Read and possibly change your perspective on Ogden’s train graffiti, “It becomes even more interesting when one learns that the art they see can be from anywhere on the continent and by anyone in the world.” These are just some of the stories told between the pages of Salty, volume 1.
Released just this week in high-quality print form, contributors to the magazine have been releasing digital content for several years, sharing sharply edited videos of subjects, and using social media to showcase the culture of Ogden.
