[ARCHIVED] Ogden City Announces Ogden Union Station Campus Development Partnership

Train pulling into Union Station

A major step towards the revitalization of one of Ogden’s most historic treasures was announced this week. Following the recent approval from the Ogden City Council to move forward on the process to purchase the land surrounding and beneath historic Union Station, the city and Utah Transit Authority (UTA) selected two firms to design and redevelop the nearly 30-acre property.

McWhinney Real Estate Investment & Development Company and J. Fisher Co. were offered the opportunity to design the Union Station Campus after an extensive Request for Proposal process, administered by UTA’s procurement office. Both of these companies have extensive experience in not only building, design and placemaking, but also in honoring the history of the city’s they work with. McWhinney was a key partner in the historic redevelopment of Union Station in downtown Denver.

“We really wanted to take that Union Station area and create a unique and vibrant transportation hub but also a living room of downtown Ogden that allows you to live there, work there, go to eat and enjoy the city,” says Brandon Cooper, Director of Community and Economic Development with Ogden City.

A years-long collaborative effort with UTA, the Union Station Foundation and the city sought out a plan that would offer a broad range of commercial uses with the Union Station Museum serving as an anchor to provide engaging and inclusive art, culture and educational visitor experiences.

The Union Station Campus is a key piece to the MAKE Ogden Master Plan, which will guide Ogden City’s community and economic growth over the next 25 years. The partnership of McWhinney, J. Fisher Co., UTA and Ogden City will ensure our history is honored and our future strong.
