Ogden City and Weber State University will host a college town celebration dinner on February 18, 2015 to recognize many local organizations for being outstanding community partners.
Ogden City and Weber State University (WSU) will host a college town celebration dinner to recognize the WSU Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) and many local organizations for being outstanding community partners. This event will be held on February 18, 2015, at the WSU Shepherd Union Ballroom (3848 Harrison Boulevard) at 6:00 p.m.
Ogden City Mayor Mike Caldwell said, “This is a unique opportunity to gather many of our community partners together and provide them with much deserved recognition. We are very appreciative of our partnerships with Weber State University and the many organizations who continually provide outstanding contributions to our community.”
WSU has partnered with local organizations for more than 125 years to provide quality programs and educational opportunities. As a result of these efforts, CCEL has received the esteemed 2015 Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification. This acknowledges WSU’s longstanding commitment to the greater Ogden community and its dedication to teaching students through community-engaged learning.
WSU President Charles Wight said, “Just as Ogden serves as a hub for its surrounding area, Weber State serves as a regional university for many cities within Weber, Davis and Morgan counties. This event celebrates our ongoing connections with, and commitment to, our community.”
Centerville, Layton, Marriott-Slaterville, North Ogden, Ogden, South Ogden and Washington Terrace have all adopted a “Keys to Our Communities” award to generously welcome the university into their communities. Additional cities and counties are anticipated to join in extending this invitation.
“The partnerships in our community encompass thousands of hours of service and significant projects that improve the lives of our residents and strengthen our community,” City Council Chair Richard Hyer said. “We are grateful for the dedicated efforts of the countless volunteers who serve so generously within our community.”
The following groups will be honored with bedrock awards for their longstanding community partnerships:
• McKay-Dee Hospital, Intermountain Healthcare—105 years;
• TriO Upward Bound, Ogden School District and Davis School District—50 years;
• Ott Planetarium and Weber School District—46 years;
• Hill Air Force Base—41 years; and
• Community Engaged Leaders: Habitat for Humanity, Best Buddies, Special Olympics and YMCA—27 years.
