The Ogden City Council has received the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Proposed Budget from Mayor Mike Caldwell and will take action on the final budget on June 25th.
After the Mayor presented his proposed budget in the Tuesday, May 7th City Council Meeting, Chair Ben Nadolski responded on behalf of the Council with a presentation outlining its budget priorities and new method in reviewing the City’s budget.
“This is a new process for the Council,” Chair Nadolski said. “We wanted to take this opportunity to set a new standard for us in our approach. We want to be more specific to make sure the things we hear from the community are accounted for in our budget process.”
In order to better understand the needs of Ogden residents, the City Council hired a consultant to conduct a citizen survey and to gather input from in-person dialog sessions. In addition, the Council commissioned a volunteer-led Strategic Planning Advisory Committee to help direct the work. While the full results of the study will not be available until after the 2019-2020 budget year begins on July 1st, a preliminary report will be available to the Council toward the end of May and will be considered during the budget process.
“As we’ve done this community feedback process, we have been identifying next year as the target year to incorporate the input into our budget,” Chair Nadolski said. “But we also recognize that it’s coming together so well and so quickly, that maybe we can begin to incorporate it this year.”
The Council encourages the public to provide feedback on the budget at the public hearings scheduled during the June 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th City Council meetings.
