Gerad "Butch" Sawyer
MNW Committee Member, He is also on our Community Outreach sub-committee.
A little bit about him... I’m a long-term resident of Ogden and made it my home after attending Utah State University in the early 70’s. I am a founding member of Project Success Coalition, a local non-profit serving youth and families in health, education, and cultural arts. In this role, I have worked to provide programming and opportunities to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion including the Utah Juneteenth Festival, Community Kwanzaa, Gift of Love Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners along with tobacco and health programs. I have committed the past 40+ years as a community builder, change agent and mentor. I retired from Ogden City after 23 years while serving as Asst. Director and later Director of the Marshall White Center. This position provided me the opportunity to know and work with countless youth, families, staff, administrators, supporters, and volunteers. One of those families is the White family. Walking into the Marshall White Center gave me a sense responsibility and honor, to be a part of keeping the legacy of the late Marshall N. White alive and well.
I’m married to Betty Sawyer and have been blessed with four sons, a daughter and as of December 2020, a proud grandpa of twelve grandchildren, which brings me great joy and purpose.
Why he wanted to be on the committee... My desire as a board member, now that "I wear a different hat" is to help ensure that the Marshall N. White Community Center continues to be a cornerstone in Ogden, a beacon of hope and a lifeline to the next generation of youth and families. I look forward to working with the community as we determine what the future holds for the “New and Improved" version of the Center.
