The Uniform Division is the backbone of the Ogden Police Department. Containing the largest number of police officers, the Uniform Division delivers the standard police services offered to the public. There are three bureaus within the Uniform Division, the Patrol Bureau, the Traffic Bureau and the Community Services Bureau. Each of these bureaus focuses on specific responsibilities in the delivery of the uniformed service. The Patrol Bureau has three priorities, provide a timely response to calls for service, prevent crime through the use of proactive patrolling during uncommitted patrol time, and deter future criminal behavior through involvement in community policing projects in their assigned patrol areas. The Traffic Bureau focuses on traffic safety and the orderly flow of traffic throughout the city, utilizing citations, speed reduction programs, accident investigations and DUI enforcement as their primary tools. The Community Services Bureau provides direct-link access to the department through field and desk contact processes. Community Service Officers are unarmed uniformed officers who handle the more routine matters of police work and who facilitate interaction with complainants and victims of non-violent crimes. They assist the uniformed police officers by handling low priority field calls, thus helping to keep full-duty officers available to handle more serious matters.
The primary goal of the Uniform Division is to reduce crime and criminality within the community of Ogden. The Uniform Division is committed to that goal and the officers of the Division put forth continuing effort to accomplish it. Secondary to that goal, is the goal of making the community of Ogden an attractive place to live in or visit. Uniform Division members are cognizant of the fact that “perception is often the reality and they strive to create a positive perception of Ogden. The officers and employees of the Uniform Division are the Division’s greatest asset and have played a major role in the continued reduction of crime trend over the last 10 years.
