Council Meetings, Agendas, and Actions

Regular Meetings

The Ogden City Council regularly meets on the first, third, and fourth Tuesdays of each month to make decisions on City matters. The second Tuesday of each month is reserved for the Ogden Redevelopment Agency meetings where Council members become RDA Commissioners. The Commission addresses proposals about housing, neighborhood improvements, or business development issues and projects.

The second Tuesday meeting is also reserved for Council Work Sessions.

Unless otherwise publicly noticed, all regular City Council meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and are held in the Ogden City Council Chambers, Suite 320, located on the third floor of the Municipal Building, 2549 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah.  Any additional meetings are scheduled as needed and properly noticed.

Council Work Sessions

The purpose of these sessions is to discuss detailed information with the Council members on specific programs or issues. These meetings are open to the public, but are not public hearings. Final decisions on matters discussed at a work session are placed on the regular Council meeting agenda.

The council agenda is posted in the lobby of the second floor of the Municipal Building.

The public can review the council agenda information packet at the Weber County Library, 2464 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden after 5 p.m. on the Friday preceding the meeting.

You can also review an agenda information packet at 8 a.m. on the Monday before each Council meeting at the City Recorder's Office at the Municipal Building, 2549 Washington Boulevard, Suite #210.

The agenda information packet contains copies of the agenda, minutes of previous meetings, staff reports, correspondence and supporting materials for each item listed on the agenda.

  1. Contact the City Council office one week before the Tuesday on which you want to address the Council.
  2. You may be asked to put your request in writing so the Council can study it before the meeting. If so, include your name, address, and telephone number on your request.

This written information will be reproduced and distributed in the Council agenda packets and provided to the Councilmembers on the Friday before the Tuesday meeting.

Individuals Who Will Not Be Given Time on the Agenda:

  • Political candidates. Elected officicals will be allowed on the agenda but only to discuss business issues, not just general election-related issues.
  • Persons wishing to discuss religious issues.
  • Persons whose focus is to criticize the Administrative staff. Such concerns should be referred to the Mayor's office.

Participation During a Public Hearing

Here is the process that will be followed during a public hearing:

    1. Council Chair introduces the issue.
    2. Administrative or Council staff gives an overview of the issue.
    3. Applicant or petitioner makes the presentation to the Council.
    4. Public hearing is opened. The public is asked to comment, one person at a time, after being recognized by the Council Chair.
    5. The Council votes to close the public hearing, after which no more comments are allowed from the audience.
    6. The Council then discusses the issue among themselves.
    7. The Council takes action to approve, not approve, approve with changes, or table the issue.
