    FIRE OPERATIONS Functions

    • The Operations Division provides emergency and non-emergency service for fires, hazardous materials incidents, emergency medical service, airport operations,
      and unique rescue services.

    • Goals for Operations

Continue the engine company inspection module that provides for inspection and pre-incident planning of the City's Life Safety occupancies. We are expanding this part of the program from buildings that have between seven to twenty living units per building, to the buildings that have from three to twenty living units per building. The focus of the module is for the engine companies to familiarize themselves with each building and to pre-incident plan these buildings using what is known as a "Quick Access Preplan (QAP)". During these inspections, the engine companies will review the function and reliability of each building's built-in fire protection systems, familiarize themselves with the escape and rescue routes, review the building's construction features to predict most probable fire and smoke travel, etc.

Conduct the Annual Open House during Fire Prevention week, using the same methodology as the past. Try to reach an attendance of four hundred students.

Train, test, and certify eight individuals, who are assigned to the HazMat Team, to the Utah/NFPA Hazardous Materials First Responder-Technician.

Facilitate the pursuit of Utah/NFPA Fire Officer 1 certification by senior firefighters who are preparing themselves for the role of company officers by hosting classes at our facilities.

Continue to support the Weber County Joint Fire Academy, particularly in the areas of Apparatus Driver Operator and advanced firefighter skills.

    SERVICES:

The Fire Operations Division provides response to a full range of incidents including emergency medical, fire, hazardous materials, high angle rescue and confined space rescue incidents. First Responder Medical incident response is provided by the nearest response unit. Fire incident response is provided by the nearest engine company being backed by a second engine company, a battalion chief, ladder, rescue and ambulance. For some types if fire incidents and occupancies a third engine company responds on the first assignment.

Fire Incident Response is provided by the nearest engine company being backed by a second engine company, a battalion chief, a ladder truck, rescue and ambulance units. For some types of fire incidents and occupancies a third engine company may also respond. A "Mutual Aid Agreement" with neighboring jurisdictions, will automatically send other engine company's to assist with the outer areas of the city. The Ogden Fire Department will in turn respond to other areas through this mutual aid agreement.

HazMat Incident Response is limited to the confines of Ogden City boundaries and has a response much like a structure fire incident. Station #2 is the home of our 9 member HazMat Team, who are all NFPA compliant HazMat Technicians. Engine #2 has a ten-person, fully enclosed cab that has been converted to provide storage for the equipment necessary to mitigate most of the potential HazMat incidents that could occur in our city.

    MEDICAL OPERATIONS

    Functions

Medical Services/Operations provides medical transportation to the citizens of Ogden and surrounding areas. Medical Services assist in efforts of rescue, fire suppression, and on-scene medical care. This division provides emergent and non-emergent ambulance transportation needs to citizens within Ogden City and the surrounding service areas. The paramedics provide advanced life support care in emergent and non-emergent capacity to people in Ogden's and surrounding area ambulances within Weber County.

    Goals for Medical Services

Gain knowledge of the new CAD utilized by our communication center in order to determine an accurate account of our ambulance run volume and distribution.

Provide continued medical education to meet the requirements set forth by the State Bureau of Emergency Medical Services to all firefighters.

Review run volume and evaluate fiscal effectiveness to expanded service area requests in order to determine needs of future ambulance operations. This is ambulance services provided outside Ogden City.

Work with local hospitals to develop a new medication exchange program due to Federal requirements.

Coordinate paramedic activities with Department's medical team in order to ensure quality assurance, equipment, and continued medical education needs are maintained.

    Services

Specialized/Confined Space Incident Response is limited to the confines of Ogden City boundaries. Station #4 is the home of our Urban Search & Rescue Team. The nine members (three on each shift) are trained in conducting Confined Space Rescues as well as Specialized Rescues. Engine #4 is also a ten-person, fully enclosed cab that has been converted to provide storage for the USAR equipment.

Ogden City Fire Dept.'s ambulance service provides medical transportation to all emergency and non-emergency 911 needs within the city's limits as well as select areas outside of the city. A basic and advanced level of transfer service is also available to local hospitals, clinics and care centers.

All Operations personnel are certified by the State of Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the EMT basic level, the EMT IV level or the EMT Paramedic level to ensure appropriate staffing on all medical units. As multiple role service providers, Operations personnel are also Utah State certified Firefighter/HazMat First Responders.
