Neighborhood Watch

The Ogden City Police Department strongly promotes active involvement of the community in crime prevention and reduction through a department wide focus on Community Policing. All officers within the Support Services Division, to include all bureaus, are assigned a geographical area of the city as a community police project. The intent is to enhance the Police Department’s response to area citizens by addressing the issues that are of primary concern to each individual neighborhood. The Weed and Seed Area, located in the central city, has been expanded to enhance the programs targeted toward crime prevention and reduction in the city center. A priority in the immediate future is to increase the Volunteers In Policing (VIP) program as well as citizen involvement in Community Councils and Neighborhood Watch.

Investigative methods involving sting-type operations will be increased throughout the year to target issues such as vehicle burglaries, thefts and property crimes. Property crimes, such as vandalism by graffiti, are quickly addressed by contacting the Graffiti Removal program. Community involvement means crime prevention. Citizens can affect property related crimes at little cost through crime prevention efforts. A significant number of these crimes are crimes of opportunity caused by leaving property attended in vehicles or yards. Using garages, locking cars and removing property from view are simple, but effective methods of crime prevention.
