The Police Department has the responsibility for protecting life and property through the enforcement of Federal and State laws as well as City codes. This entails a wide variety of calls for service, some of an emergency nature and others for information, traffic control, peace keeping measures for any public safety related matter.
The majority of the department's efforts and manpower are focused on the suppression, detection and investigation of crime. Most of this activity comes after discovering or being notified of a possible criminal situation. However, the department also realizes the importance of attempting to eliminate crime and criminal opportunity through the implementation of crime prevention programs.

Kids, Cops and Christmas
In 1991 the Ogden Police Benefit Association created the Cops, Kids, and Christmas program to provide children in the Ogden community with a positive christmas experience. The Ogden Police Benefit Association partners with Prevent Child Abuse Utah to select kids who have not had the opportunity to have a positive Christmas experience because their families have been affected by drugs and domestic violence to the point where some of these children no longer live in their homes or as a family unit. In many of these instances police officers were involved in removing the children from their homes and placing them into the custody of child services. Our goal is to show these children that police officers are their friends and are in the community to help them in their time of need.
