Pet Licensing

Protect Your Pet, License It!

All cats, dogs, and ferrets must be licensed yearly. License renewals are due according to the month the pet was originally licensed. For example, if your pet is licensed in August, the renewal will also be in August the following year. Owners must show proof of a current rabies vaccination at the time of annual licensing. In addition to a current rabies vaccination, ferrets must also be microchipped in order to obtain a license.

Lifetime licenses are available for purchase for altered (sterile) animals only. If you purchase a lifetime license, you must still renew that license each year and present proof of a current rabies vaccination. There is no charge at the time of renewal for lifetime licenses, however.

Residents of Ogden are allowed six (total) companion animals on their property. Of the six, not more than two can be dogs or ferrets. Examples of acceptable combinations of animals would include two dogs and four cats, six cats and no dogs or ferrets, or two ferrets and four cats. If you have questions about what is allowable, please call the Ogden Animal Shelter.
